Fall Anime Rundown part 2

Just like before, this will only mention shows that started and ended or ended in the fall season. Considering how easy it is for me to start an anime and never finish it, I think I did fairly well this season.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken – my favourite anime couple

I wasn’t expecting much from this show, but it was really nice to watch. Even though it seems like every episode would center around Hajime’s otakuness and Kaoru’s inability to understand her husband, but it wasn’t. Instead, we got a show about a young couple who truly love each other and accept each other’s quirks. Maybe it’s because they’re older, but the show seemed more mature and thus less angsty and annoying.

Some episodes were confusing though, but I’m early anticipating the next season!

Karen Senki – best looking anime of the seasons, but it did have a bad beginning

I think this was the best looking anime of the fall season. Yes, it’s CGI, but wow it is CGI. There were times when the show was simply stunning to look at and what’s great is that the animation remained consistent. The first few episodes were horrible though. We had tons of action, but no real plot. Once the other characters showed up, the show seemed to have found its footing and got better. There were still a lot of questions that weren’t answered though.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou – I always have bath envy when I watch this

Another cute show that always made me smile. It was short, but it fully utilized its four minutes to always tell a coherent story. The characters were funny, the friendship between Tatsumi and Wakasa developed nicely, and I just enjoyed it. It’s refreshingly sweet with tons of bishies.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken episode 13 – The End is Only Just the Beginning

First off, congrats to Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken for getting a second season!

second season

Hajime lets us in on why the endings of slice of life animes are always so bittersweet. Sure you could move on to the next anime that comes along your path, but if you’re invested with the characters then you want to know what happens next. Only…only you’ll never know. Because the anime is over.

Good thing Danna is getting another season so I don’t have to worry about that.

After raising a flag with a friend, Hajime heads home to find a tired Kaoru. She hasn’t been feeling well and is feeling very nauseous. Her mood has been brighter and the moment she hit the bed she fell asleep. That could only mean one thing. She’s pregnant.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (2)

Danna, we’ve already went through this. Kaoru was feeling this way and her doctor made it seem like she was pregnant. Then nothing happened. Just because this is the final episode of the season and something needs to happen, since it’s a slice of life anime, doesn’t mean you can pull the same trick twice.

If she is pregnant, then she better be pregnant. I know that makes no sense, but it did in my head.

He heads out to buy a pregnancy testing kit and everyone seems to have found out that Kaoru might be pregnant so they send him some warm wishes. Even Kaoru’s father, who looked like he was about to kill Hajime the last time this happened. Back home, Kaoru pees on the stick and will the show troll us again?

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (3)

Nope, because it actually looks like she’s pregnant.

Because it was announced that this was getting a second season I don’t feel that emptiness void that I would have felt. I want to see a pregnant Kaoru and how the parents interact with their kid.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken episode 11 – Being lonely makes you sad and changes your artstyle

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (1)

Before even getting into the plot of this episode, the art style really hits you over the head doesn’t it? I read on MAL that this episode was directed by Itsuki Imazaki, which explains the change. I don’t think everyone will like it and to be honest, I very much prefer the look from the previous episode. But since this is a flashback episode to a time in Kaoru’s life where she wasn’t happy, I kind of feel like it works.

This is a low period in her life, so why should everything look bright and cheerful?

I don’t want it to look like this for the rest of the episodes, but I do like the change here….only for this episode.

Kaoru gets transferred to a job that she doesn’t like and invited to a wedding that makes her happy for her friend, but also incredibly lonely. She thought that as long as she told herself that everything would be okay that things would work out and she’d be happy as long as she could smoke, drink and watch TV.

But after awhile, her loneliness creeps up on her. I think a lot of people have felt this way at one point in their lives. Even if you are fine with being alone, you still crave some sort of interaction with someone, be it with friends, family, significant other, or online peeps. That isn’t to say that everyone would get depressed over it, but it’s clear that Kaoru’s life was getting to her.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (3)

After saying that she’s not okay, she wakes up. She isn’t alone anymore now that Hajime is here. She looks down on him fondly. After that flashback, she’s thankful that he’s there by her side and I kind of love that she didn’t jump him. She let him sleep and just lays back down next to him.

She ends the episode by saying, “People can’t survive on their own.” Does this mean that you need a man to complete your life, no and I don’t think the show is saying that. Kaoru was lonely and felt like her life was in a rut that she couldn’t get out of, so when Hajime appeared it was like her world opened up. I think the same could have happened if it was a friend too. Sometimes all we need is someone there for us and that’s all Kaoru needed.

Even though she didn’t want to transfer to sales, I bet she’s happy she did since it looks like Hajime was hired after she transferred.

Overall, I thought the episode was good. Like I said before, I think a lot of people can relate to how Kaoru feelings of loneliness and being stuck. Even if you have family and friends around you it doesn’t really stop you from feeling this way and in some circumstances it may intensify it. And we see that happen with Kaoru. When she went to the wedding, she was happy for her friend but started to also panic as she remembered her own life. Then, when she was alone the feelings took over and she finally admitted that she wasn’t okay, even though she kept saying that she was.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (4)

But there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, so I was happy when Kaoru got her happy ending. Plus, I really love this couple. They’re just so cute. She may not understand what he says sometimes, but she wouldn’t want it any other way.

I wonder if we’ll see a Hajime’s flashback in the next episode. I don’t think he’d be as lonely as Kaoru, since he lived with his family, but that might just be a baseless assumption on my end. Maybe he felt the same way as Kaoru and that’s why they clicked so easily?

Even though the art style worked for this episode, I really hope we got back to normal for the next one. Actually, if it’s a gloomy flashback like this one then I don’t think I’d mind it if it was used again.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken episode 10

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

Hajime’s mother drops by and asks him about his job and wonders why he doesn’t have kids yet. Then the couple start talking about whether they even want kids and how they’ll have to prepare first before that ever happens. They also talk to their friends about kids and try to come up with names as well.

The thing is I thought Kaoru was already pregnant. I mean, back in episode six we had that really confusing episode where she went to the doctors and was told to stop smoking. Kaoru’s overprotective dad wanted to punch Hajime. And in episode eight, we saw the two of them taking care of a child and doing a pretty good job of it.

So I’m left wondering. Is Kaoru pregnant, or not? I thought I was sure before, but this episode is making me think that her doctor was his messing with her. If that’s the case, why were all the signs pointing to her being pregnant? I don’t get it.

Other than the confusing bit about the pregnancy, or the lack one, the episode was good. Lately, the episode have been a bit more serious, so it’s nice that we got some more comedy this time around with the added bonus of some anime references. It was also nice to see Hajime’s parents.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken episode 9

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (1)

Youta is back and asks his brother and sister-in-law how their first date was. Good question, because I’d seriously love to know how these two people, who had those kinds of views about marriage, ended up together. Youta wants to know so he can use it in his BL manga.

Looks like she was the supervisor at his work, I’m only speculating though since I don’t know, and thought that he was the least manly guy that she’s ever saw. She asks him to place a stick on something, which he agrees to. She then asks him to confirm the stock. He agrees again. She then asks him if he wants to go out somewhere and he agrees again.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (2)

I guess this means that they already liked each other at this point. Now I want to know how they met and how Hajime proposed to her.

Hajime isn’t sure what to do, but Youta told him that acting natural is best. Meanwhile, Kaoru tells her father that she’s going on a date and he doesn’t seem to be taking it all that well. He seems intent on killing the guy taking his precious daughter away.

The date isn’t anything fancy or special, they spent it mostly walking and talking but they both had a great time. Hajime usually did fake smiles, but he was pretty genuine during their time out. While they were walking, Hajime ends up confessing to Kaoru. He forgot to do it before, so before anything else progresses in their date he decides to man up and finally confess.

Their date cute, but incredibly unremarkable. This may seem like a bad thing, but it isn’t. For a show like this, it’s nice. This is a story about a normal couple doing normal things, so their date fit their personalities. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for Youta who seems unable to use their story for his manga.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (6)

I wish I watched this anime before, because if I was doing the 30 day anime challenge again I would have them as my favourite anime couple. It’s kind of refreshing to watch two normal people who genuinely like each other and not suffer from angst or drama. Like every couple out there, they do have their own issues and problems that they need to deal with, but unlike other shows where this issue might last long, it doesn’t here. The studio only has three minutes, so that may be one of the contributing factors to this.. But I think it’s because they’re older and are able to handle things in a mature and adult way.

It’s a breath of fresh air, but I don’t think this will work for others as it may seem boring. Unlike the other episodes, this one didn’t really have any sort of comedy to it. The dad’s reaction was the only thing that was meant to make us laugh, but other than that nothing else really.

Then again, it seems like the last few episodes have been like this. Instead of following multiple story lines, it’s mostly been about Hajime and Kaoru and their cute marriage. Even though it’s the same show, the latter episodes do have a different feel to them when you compare it to the earlier ones.

In any case, I’m still enjoy the show quite a bit and I’m glad that we got to see their first date. But now I’m wondering about their first meeting and the moment that they became aware of each other. Did their feelings start gradually, or was it an instant connection? How did they get married? And how is Kaoru dealing with morning sickness?

I want to know.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken ep 8

Kaoru gets a call from a relative, asking her to take care of their kid for them. Kaoru asks Hajime if he’s okay with it and…

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (1)

I guess he is since he makes that face, so Kaoru accepts the request. The episode just started, but it could go two ways. Since Kaoru is pregnant, they’ll either find that they can’t stand kids and worry how they’ll be able to take care of the one they have. Or, they’ll be overwhelmed, but excited that they’ll have a little one playing with them soon. Or the show can simply go another route that charms me. I think any route they go with I’ll be happy though.

So the little kid comes and her name is Ai-chan. She’s cute, but soon enough starts taking off her clothes because they’re too stiff. Kaoru tries to get her to put it back on, even mentioning that a beast is in the house. Hajime comes in and asks if he can join in on the fun. I was afraid he’d take off his shirt, since the last episode established that he does it quite easily, but thankfully he didn’t.

Instead he gives Ai-chan one of his shirts. It’s cute, but I think his lolicon side came out a bit with that.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (4)

They contemplate what to do with Ai-chan. They can’t play any of the games at home, since they’re not for girls and probably not suitable for kids. When they ask her what she likes, she mentions golf so they take her to the driving range and spend the day there.

The reason why Ai-chan loves golf is because her mother is a pro player and her father is the mom’s caddy, so it makes sense for Ai-chan to love golf as much as she does. It’s in her blood. Her mom is planning on quitting after this match so she can spend time raising the kid, which is why Kaoru was willing to take care of Ai-chan for the day.

They have fun and as they go home, little Ai-chan takes their hands and thanks them. It’s very cute and Kaoru seems touched by the moment. The ending really made me want to see their kid.

So I was wrong. They ended up having an easy time with the kid and looked cute doing it too. I tend to prefer the episodes when it’s mostly about Kaoru and Hajime, so by default I liked this episode well enough. You can definitely tell that they’ll be good parents because despite their quirkiness, they’re both loving and mature about a lot of things.

Sure they’ll struggle, but they’ll manage it someway.

I can’t believe eight episodes passed us by though. It kind of makes me sad that this charming little anime will be done so soon. I’d be fine about it ending if it meant that we’d see Kaoru and Hajime’s kid, but I don’t think we will. Therefore, the show should last longer….or at least come back with a sequel.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken ep 7

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

Kaoru doesn’t know how to cook all that well, but Hajime always tells her that it’s good. “Everything about you is a yes, Kaoru-tan!” What a great husband. Cooking is a soft spot for many wives, especially those who don’t know how to cook all that well. So the fact that he’s encouraging and not dismissing her food is beautiful to see. He’s nothing like my siblings who say, “Oh the food is good, who made it? When I tell them I did they just say, “Oh….I thought mom made it, but now that I know you did it’s not that good. Not good at all.” Kaoru is lucky that her husband is a sweetheart and can cook well.

In the last episode, I mentioned I was confused by a character on the show that they introduced. When I went on MAL they said he was Kaoru’s father, but I wasn’t so sure since he looks so young. In this episode, we get confirmation that he’s the father. But if he is, why did Hajime ask for a punch? Would the father be overjoyed that his daughter is pregnant?

Since he is a professional, Kaoru asks for help. Hajime is sad though because his wife will lose her bad cooking attribute. He was doing so well…..Kaoru’s dad agrees to help, even though he doesn’t really like Hajime all that much. He tells her that her mom was the same way and only matured as a person because of Kaoru.

Kaoru then feeds Hajime and it’s so good that he takes off his shirt. For an Otaku who seems to spend his days watching animes and talking about, well at least he did before he started working, he’s surprisingly ripped.

Meanwhile, Miki-san gets a boxed lunch from Hajime’s trap friendly little brother, Youta. After what happened last time, Miki doesn’t want to accept the box and wants to be as far away from Youta as possible, but he quickly gives in when the little guy starts crying.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying says has really grown on me. The relationship between the two is really sweet and I like how even though they don’t know the first thing about marriage; they’re still trying their best to make it work for them.

I also love how it doesn’t fall into the predictable, “Why would a hot girl fall for a weird guy like him? Hey! Let’s talk about all the ways my husband is weird and laugh about it.” Kaoru actually loves her husband and his little quirks and Hajime loves his wife and her quirks as well. Neither are perfect, but they’re both perfect for each other.

But what made me really love this episode is how Hajime complimented whatever food was given to him. I love that! He knows she isn’t a good cook, but thinks that side of her is cute so he doesn’t mind. It makes me want a husband like that.

Cute episode. Really, really cute episode!

Short Anime Recaps – Orenchi & Danna

Orenchi no Furo Jijou

Orenchi no Furo Jijou - Wakasa, Mikuni, and Takasu

It’s Halloween at the bathtub of money doom. Wakasa, Mikuni, and Takasu all dress up and go trick or treating. There’s only one door though, the one to leave the bathroom, so Tatsumi stands outside the door and gives them candy when they knock. The crew of sea creatures are happy with the haul that they got, but once they realize that Tatsumi didn’t get any they ask him to choose between Trick or Treat.

He chooses Trick.

Now that Halloween is over, Tatsumi goes off to make dinner and smashes the Jack-o’-lantern that he made.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken - Karou & her doctor

The episode starts with Kaoru coming home from work and collapsing. Her doctor told her to stop smoking, which kind of makes me think she’s pregnant. The reason why Kaoru has been smoking so much is that she’s stressed over the change in Hajime. She misses her NEET husband who was weird and awkward and not this one who smiles in a fake way. Kaoru loves it when her husband acts more like an otaku than when he’s normal.

Hajime seems to be distressed by Karou’s collapse and wants to work even harder. He also goes to some guy, who according to one person on MAL is Karou’s father, and asks for a punch. He gets rejected because Kaoru wouldn’t like that.

Seems like Hajime is acting really weird, what with him asking for more work and wanting to be hit, but it’s because Kaoru is pregnant. Considering the amount of times she jumped him in the last episode, it’s not that surprising that she’s now with child. I have to say though that I’m excited to see how the kid turns out.

Not much comedy from Danna this week. It was actually more confusing than anything.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou - Wakasa, Mikuni, Takasu & Tatsumi

I do like both, but this week Orenchi did better simply because it was straightforward and had a clear plot. Plus, it’s quite timely considering Halloween just happened. With Danna, I was confused during my first viewing of the episode and had to look at what others were saying to make sense of it. Even after watching it again, I still don’t get the scene involving Hajime and the man at the restaurant who might be Kaoru ‘s father. He’s married, so why does he need to be hit in the first place?

I just don’t get it.

I do like the pregnancy reveal though. At the end of the day, both are still cute so it was a win-win for me.
