Fall Anime Rundown part 2

Just like before, this will only mention shows that started and ended or ended in the fall season. Considering how easy it is for me to start an anime and never finish it, I think I did fairly well this season.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken – my favourite anime couple

I wasn’t expecting much from this show, but it was really nice to watch. Even though it seems like every episode would center around Hajime’s otakuness and Kaoru’s inability to understand her husband, but it wasn’t. Instead, we got a show about a young couple who truly love each other and accept each other’s quirks. Maybe it’s because they’re older, but the show seemed more mature and thus less angsty and annoying.

Some episodes were confusing though, but I’m early anticipating the next season!

Karen Senki – best looking anime of the seasons, but it did have a bad beginning

I think this was the best looking anime of the fall season. Yes, it’s CGI, but wow it is CGI. There were times when the show was simply stunning to look at and what’s great is that the animation remained consistent. The first few episodes were horrible though. We had tons of action, but no real plot. Once the other characters showed up, the show seemed to have found its footing and got better. There were still a lot of questions that weren’t answered though.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou – I always have bath envy when I watch this

Another cute show that always made me smile. It was short, but it fully utilized its four minutes to always tell a coherent story. The characters were funny, the friendship between Tatsumi and Wakasa developed nicely, and I just enjoyed it. It’s refreshingly sweet with tons of bishies.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 13 – Friends

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (1)

Wakasa watches a show where an okama complains that whenever he comes home from work, his roommate/boyfriend is there eating snacks and watching TV. It’s through this program that Wakasa learns something shocking. He’s a mooch.

I find it hilarious that he’s watching a show like this. The shounen-ai vibes are heavy once again, plus it’s funny that the only female that we’ve seen so far is Tatsumi’s little sister.

Anyways, Wakasa tries to look for work. The only thing he can write is that he has twenty years of being a merman as experience. It’s hopeless. So Tatsumi suggests that he send in postcards to try to win prizes.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (2)

Even though Wakasa reads a lot, he can’t write. Thankfully, Tatsumi is here to help him and within two hours Wakasa is able to do it all himself.

He’s still worried about being a mooch though, but Tatsumi reassures him that he’s letting a freeloader stay with him because that’s what he wants. And anyways, this would make them friends, so it’s okay. Sometime later, Wakasa wins a prize and gives it to Tatsumi.

He wanted meat, but at least this gift makes Tatsumi happy.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (3)

The episode ends with a new year’s greeting and all of Wakasa’s friends showing up at Tatsumi’s place.

Another cute episode. The think that I like about Orenchi no Furo Jijou is that even though it’s a four minute anime, it knows how to utilize it’s short time and tell a coherent story. And by the end of every episode I always left feeling satisfied.

I’m going to miss this anime. It may not have been the greatest thing and definitely not in my top fall anime list, but it’s refreshing, it’s relaxing and it always left me with a smile on my face. I’m glad I watched this.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 12 – Almost dying because you’re alone…

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (1)

Wakasa is home alone and keeps hearing noises. Tatsumi isn’t around though, so his mind keeps thinking up the worse possible situation. Did Tatsumi run away? Did he suffer from a terrible accident? Was he abducted by UMA? All of these thoughts keep swimming around Wakasa’s head. Turns out that Tatsumi just said that he was going to be running late and even left some extra food out in case our little merman got hungry.

Only…only Wakasa ate everything already. He tries to call him, but he doesn’t know how to use a phone. He actually makes it outside of the bathroom, but now he’s drying up. If only Tatsumi would come around and help him out.

He came and he helped out and the Shounen-ai vibes are super heavy when they both talk to each other at the end of the episode. It’s kind of funny that Wakasa was so terrified of being alone that he almost died, because of it. That’s not even an exaggeration. If Tatsumi didn’t show up, Wakasa would be dead. Then Tatsumi would have to deal with a dead merman and a sticky floor.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (2)

Things worked out in the end though, so that’s good. It did kind of feel like it was the final episode. There’s one more left, but I wonder what they’re going to do with it. Will a new character come or will the episode be about Wakasa and Tatsumi?

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 11 – so many different baths

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (3)

Tatsumi got a raise at work, so the bathroom is getting a bath tub party! Everyone, except Tatsmi’s sister, shows up and enjoys all of the different types of baths n the party. They try a milk bath, a coffee bath, a lemon tea bath, an aquari bath, a citron bath, wine bath, a beer bath, and a shochu bath. When this happens, it’s too much for Tatsumi to take so he passes out.

Underage drinking is bad. And even if you’re not drinking, being near someone who is drinking and inhaling the smell is a gateway to you drinking the hard stuff. Second hand drinking is dangerous, which is why Tatsumi passed out. That or the fact that his bathroom had a really strong smell in it.

In the end, the water goes back to his natural state and everyone is happy. Tatsumi also decides to make a hot pot.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (5)

That’s pretty much what happened in the episode. It was nice seeing the gang again, but this episode left me with a burning jealousy of Tatsumi’s bath. The fact that he’s able to fit in all of those people in a single bath is something else. It must be huge if that’s the case. The one at my place couldn’t even fit two people. Not that I want it to and I’m not planning on letting anyone join me anytime soon, but I do wish it was bigger.

I wonder why they didn’t try sparkling water bath. I remember watching an episode where people actually go to this one bath house that offers carbonated water as a bath. It apparently helps clear out dead skin and leave your skin feeling smooth and fresh.

It might eat away at their slimy skin though and possibly kill Mikuni, so I guess it’s a good with it. Another cute episode of Orenchi. There’s still one more character left to meet, so I wonder if we’ll see him in the next episode and then the last one will just be Tatsumi and Wakasa together?

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 10 – Maki licks up the competition

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (6)

The episode starts with Tatsumi outside of the house. Two kids are playing around with a shell, so after they run off he picks it up and instantly knows it’s another one of Wakasa’s friends. This little guy is called Maki and not only does he have an incredibly deep voice, but he’s also super shy and kind of depressing.

Unlike Wakasa’s other friends, this one seems kind of useful. He cleans up the tub and removes all of the slime. Tatsumi definitely approves of him and with good reason. Wakasa makes a mess and it’s a hard job to clean it all up, so if someone else can do that and it’s their food source then he wants that person around all the time.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (3)

Maki is a bit of a Debbie downer though, but after being cleaned his personality completely changes and he became cheerful and bright. The moment he’s reminded that he’s small he goes back to his depressing personality again.

After the last few episodes, it’s nice to see one of Wakasa’s friends. I thought the octopus was my favourite, mainly because he likes squeezing into tight spaces, but Maki seems awesome so far. And like I said before, he’s actually useful. Unlike the others who can only show up every so often since the bath is so small, Maki can stay there full time because he is small.

Maki is small, cute, and something I need in my house right now. Cleaning the bathroom would be so much easier if you had a guy like this who could just lick everything clean. If Tatsumi is smart, he’ll make sure Maki stays in his bathroom for good.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (1)

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 9

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (3)

You know what happens when you let a mermaid stay in your bathtub for long periods of time? Your water bill goes up, your food bill goes up, and you start to smelly something fishy in your bathroom. When the last thing happens, there’s only one thing left to do.

It’s time to clean the bathtub.

And that’s exactly what Tatsumi plans to do. If you’re wondering where Wakasa is while this is happening? Don’t worry! Tatsumi has it covered. Since Wakasa needs to always have water near him, he uses his little sister’s pool and places Wakasa in there while he cleans the dirty bathtub.

Seems like it’s going to be another episode with just the two of them, but then everyone’s favourite overly attached sister shows up. It isn’t her day to visit, but the moment she heard that Tatsumi was using her pool she just couldn’t resist coming over. Last time Kasumi showed up, Tatsumi promised to do anything that she wanted and all she wants is to take a bath with him, just like how they use to when she was younger.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (1)

Tatsumi tries to get out of it, but Kasumi is relentless about the promise and even Wakasa tells him to do it. In the end, all of them take a bath together. At first, Wakasa had a blindfold on and remained in the kiddie pool while Tatsumi and Kasumi were in the main bath, but after hearing how much fun the two siblings were having he just couldn’t resist and had to join in.

It’s a good thing that he did too, because Wakasa and Kasumi bond over shampoo. Seeing as the two got closer, she even entrusts him to take lots of pictures of her brother and send her an image a day. Considering that Wakasa only stays in the bathroom, I think it’s safe to guess what kind of pictures she’s after.

You might think that only Kasumi is the one benefiting from this, but if Wakasa does what he’s asked then he’ll get his very own Mikami shampoo. Everyone wins, except Tatsumi who will probably have to wear a bathing suit every time he’s in the bathroom now.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (2)

It’s nice that Wakasa and Kasumi’s relationship have come around full circle. She hated him before , since he got to spend the most time with Tatsumi, and he was uncomfortable around her, because she said that he smells and feels sticky, but after bonding over shampoo they’ve gotten closer. It’s nice. He even says some words that makes her almost fall for him. He is a bishie, so it’s understandable why she would waver a bit.

I also appreciated that the studio didn’t go overboard when Kasumi fell into Wakasa’s pool and became sticky. It pandered to lolicons, but it wasn’t so gracious that it would offend anyone or make the rest of us feel uncomfortable since Kasumi is a kid.

Overall, not the best episode in the series but still fun to watch.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 8

orenchi (4)

After last week’s episode that introduced Tatsumi’s little sister, we’re back to the two main starts by themselves. Wakasa hates vegetables and since he’s read a magazine that says carnivores are more popular, he’s decided to be a carnivore for life.

If mermaids are just human fish like creatures, then would they be omnivores like us or would they stick to a mostly vegetation like manatees? It’s times like this that I wish I had a mini David Attenborough with me so that he could answer this.

orenchi (1)

It doesn’t matter since Wakasa is strictly a meat eating mermaid. He learned that carnivores are popular after reading a magazine about them. He doesn’t get that it’s about dating, but whatever. He also decides to use what he learned on Tatsumi by inviting him for a bath and washing his hair for him.

Tatsumi isn’t pleased though. He tries one more time to get Wakasa to eat his veggies, but Wakasa refuses. With a sad expression on his face, Tatsumi leaves and Wakasa starts getting nervous. Did he make Tatsumi angry because of his selfish behaviour? Even though Wakasa likes being spoiled, he doesn’t want Tatsumi to be hurt so he eats all of his vegetables.

orenchi (2)

Never knew vegetables could make a grown man cry so much and cause him to make this kind of face. It’s cute though, in a depressing kind of way. Too bad for Wakasa though, even though he managed to eat all of his vegetables Tatsumi wouldn’t have forced him to do it anyways.

Tatsumi, who once again shows how great of a mother/parent he would be, brings Wakasa a vegetable cocktail thinking that this might be an easier way for the man child to have a balanced diet. Kind of brought me back to when my mom would make a soup for my siblings and I since we didn’t like vegetables as kids too.

Wakasa drinks the vegetable drink too, just to show how committed he is to Tatsumi. Then the two have an arm wrestle and Wakasa easily wins it. Makes sense though. He is a mermaid after all.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 7

I’ve been wondering when Tatsumi’s little sister, Kasumi, would show up and now that we’re at episode seven it looks like she’s finally arrived. Get ready for an overly attached little sister with a brother complex!

orenchi no furo jijou - kasumi

That’s her trying on Tatsumi’s clothes and smelling it.

The moment Kasumi arrives, she feels like something smells fishy, but she plays with her brother like nothing is wrong. I thought that Tasumi would only be suffering money woos, but I guess keeping a mermaid in the washroom 24/7 would make the apartment smell a bit like the sea. Since he lives there, he wouldn’t smell it, but newcomers definitely would.

Poor Wakasa, it ain’t easy being a man of the sea. No matter what you do, you’ll always smell like a fish. The only way to solve it is by adding an assortment of spices and frying. I guess that’s why he likes bubble baths so much. They help hide the smell.

Kasumi stumbles upon Wakasa and declares war. It doesn’t matter that he’s a man or a fish, anyone who gets near her brother will be exterminated. Plus, she doesn’t like that he lives with her brother and is able to take baths with him too. It’s simply not fair, since Tatsumi stopped doing that with Kasumi.

orenchi no furo jijou - kasumi, tatsumi & wakasa

She’s jealous that she has to compete with a grown man child for Tatsumi’s affection. Considering the fact that she doesn’t live with him and can only see him every so often, it’s no surprise that she’s feeling a little left out. Tatsumi, being the loving mother figure that he is, promises to do anything that she wants next time she comes over. That’s the problem with the word ‘anything’ it can always backfire on you.

Everyone is happy in the end though.

Another cute episode. In the manga Kasumi was pretty hit or miss. I understood why she craved Tatsumi’s attention, but if we see her all the time then it would get a bit annoying. She’s cute though, so at least she has that going for her.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou episode 6

Orenchi no Furo Jijou

Tatsumi, being the ever giving friend that he is, brings home a bubble bath mix to make for Wakasa. Our bishie merman is obviously pleased with it and is overjoyed that he can finally take a bubble bath. He invites Tatsumi to join him, but he refuses because it’s too girly. When Wakasa says it would be a waste to not give it a try, Tatsumi gives in and joins him in the bath.

He’s not happy about it though, because he never thought that he’d ever succumb and take a bubble bath. Due to his monologuing about his predicament, Wakasa tries to cheer him up by throwing some fluff on him. A bubble fight ensues until all the foam is gone and all that remains is the clear water.

Tatsumi leaves, but Wakasa notices that there are two empty packets of bubble bath pouches left. Instead of just waiting for the next time, he opens both and makes a huge bubbly mess.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou

Another cute episode in the Orenchi bathtub. Unlike the last few, this one only deals with Tatsumi and Wakasa and I was quite happy to see that. I do like the other characters and seeing how weird everyone is, but the dynamic between the Tatsumi and Wakasa is my favourite part of the show. Tatsumi is the type to mother people and be overly giving while Wakasa is like that kid you always have to watch out for. I feel like Tatsumi spoils him, but I also think he’s happy that he has someone to do that too so it’s okay.

I thought by now they would have introduced Tatsumi’s little sister, but she’s still hasn’t made her grand entrance. Maybe in the next episode?

Short Anime Recaps – Orenchi & Danna

Orenchi no Furo Jijou

Orenchi no Furo Jijou - Wakasa, Mikuni, and Takasu

It’s Halloween at the bathtub of money doom. Wakasa, Mikuni, and Takasu all dress up and go trick or treating. There’s only one door though, the one to leave the bathroom, so Tatsumi stands outside the door and gives them candy when they knock. The crew of sea creatures are happy with the haul that they got, but once they realize that Tatsumi didn’t get any they ask him to choose between Trick or Treat.

He chooses Trick.

Now that Halloween is over, Tatsumi goes off to make dinner and smashes the Jack-o’-lantern that he made.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken - Karou & her doctor

The episode starts with Kaoru coming home from work and collapsing. Her doctor told her to stop smoking, which kind of makes me think she’s pregnant. The reason why Kaoru has been smoking so much is that she’s stressed over the change in Hajime. She misses her NEET husband who was weird and awkward and not this one who smiles in a fake way. Kaoru loves it when her husband acts more like an otaku than when he’s normal.

Hajime seems to be distressed by Karou’s collapse and wants to work even harder. He also goes to some guy, who according to one person on MAL is Karou’s father, and asks for a punch. He gets rejected because Kaoru wouldn’t like that.

Seems like Hajime is acting really weird, what with him asking for more work and wanting to be hit, but it’s because Kaoru is pregnant. Considering the amount of times she jumped him in the last episode, it’s not that surprising that she’s now with child. I have to say though that I’m excited to see how the kid turns out.

Not much comedy from Danna this week. It was actually more confusing than anything.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou - Wakasa, Mikuni, Takasu & Tatsumi

I do like both, but this week Orenchi did better simply because it was straightforward and had a clear plot. Plus, it’s quite timely considering Halloween just happened. With Danna, I was confused during my first viewing of the episode and had to look at what others were saying to make sense of it. Even after watching it again, I still don’t get the scene involving Hajime and the man at the restaurant who might be Kaoru ‘s father. He’s married, so why does he need to be hit in the first place?

I just don’t get it.

I do like the pregnancy reveal though. At the end of the day, both are still cute so it was a win-win for me.
