Trailer: Ore Monogatari!! Live Action Movie

Why is it that even though I don’t really understanding what they’re saying and can only pick up a few words here and there, I have a big huge goofy grin on my face as I watched the trailer?

The live action movie for Ore Monogatari!! is set to open on October 31st in Japan.

The cast includes:

Ryohei Suzuki as Takeo Gōda
Mei Nagano as Rinko Yamato
Kentarō Sakaguchi as Makoto Sunakawa
Yasufumi Terawaki asYutaka Gōda (Takeo’s father)
Sawa Suzuki as Yuriko Gōda (Takeo’s mother)

Even though the movie seems to be covering quite a bit of the story, I’m sure that it will be good. I may be bias, since I’m a fan of the manga and anime, but I think it would be incredibly hard to mess up a story like this. The plot is already fantastic and the actors seem to fit their roles well, so this should a great film to watch.

I want to watch it now. I want to watch it now.

I want to watch it now!!

News: Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso to end in February (manga)

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

According to ANN:

2015’s February issue of Kodansha‘s Gekkan Shonen Magazine will announce on January 6 that Naoshi Arakawa‘s manga Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) will end in the magazine’s next issue on February 6.

Why does it seem like everything is ending? I’m going to have to find new mangas to read now.

I haven’t fully caught up to this yet, so I’m happy that it’s getting an ending so I can catch up and not have to wait a week to find out what happens next. But at the same time, I’m sad since the manga is quite good. This isn’t new news though, but I guess this means that the anime series will adapt the manga till the very end.

I’m behind on both, mainly because I wanted to watch the anime once it’s all done but now that the manga is finishing around the same time I wonder if I should wait until February to complete this series? Hmmm…decisions, decisions.

Congrats to Arakawa Naoshi on a successful manga run!

Day 18 – Favourite Live Action version of an Anime/Manga

I’ve read my fair share of mangas and I’ve watched my fair share of animes. But for some reason or another, I haven’t watched a lot of dramas that are based on the mangas/animes that I’m familiar with. And I haven’t read or seen a lot of the source material that some of the dramas are based on.

Man, this challenge is really making me realize that I haven’t watched a lot of dramas.

From those I’ve seen, I guess Dragonball Evolution and Speed Racer would be my top choices…I kid I kid, even though I think that Speed Racer was fun to look at.

Liar Game and LIFE would be an easy pick and Sailor Moon was pretty good, once you got over the campy feel of the story.

But for the sake of this question, I’m going to go with Nobunaga Concerto!

I absolutely adore this anime and after steamrolling through it, I learned of a drama so I decided to watch it. With the anime, I was taken aback by the animation choice. With the drama, I thought Oguri Shun looked too old to be a high schooler. But after I got over both, I loved every minute of them. The drama isn’t like the anime/manga though, but then again I don’t think I’ve every watched a live action version that didn’t change things around.

The changes here are a bit more than normal, but it adds to the story instead of hindering it. One of the problems with the anime is that we didn’t get to see Saburo struggle with his new life. One moment he’s a high schooler, then next he’s riding horses and taking names on the battlefield. The drama adds some much needed background info and gives more time on the emotional aspect of the story instead of just a series of events.

Even though this isn’t part of the question, there is a live action movie that I personally found disappointing. Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit.

Ikigami was one of the first mangas that I’ve ever read so it holds a special place in my heart. I don’t think this could ever work as an anime just because of the subject matter, so when I heard that there was a movie out and it starred Matsuda Shota, the level of excitement that I felt was through the roof.

Then I watched it and was left feeling pretty dejected. While the story itself isn’t bad, I just found it lacking that special something that made Ikigami so dear to me. Maybe if this was a drama and fleshed out the stories a bit, I might have liked it more. And even though Matsuda Shota did a good job acting, he never felt like Fujimoto Kengo to me.

5 Mangas That Need An Anime Adaptation part 1

It’s official, Koe no Katachi will be getting an anime adaption. I’m super stoked by this, because the story is fantastic, the characters are flawed but real human beings, and the feels that it brings forth. I’ll definitely have my tissues handy while watching it. Oooh! I can’t wait!

So in honour of the news, here’s five mangas that need an anime adaption done. I was trying to figure out if I should do a theme for this list, because there’s way too many mangas that need adaptions. Should I do a Shounen List, a Shoujo one? A list of mangas that are ongoing, or a list of mangas that have ended already and/or were cancelled?

I couldn’t decide, so I’m going with the first 5 mangas that pop into my head.

1. I Am a Hero

I am a Hero

This was the first one that I thought of, but I don’t know if it will ever happen. If you thought the first few episodes of Tokyo Ghoul and Terra Formars was bad when it came to censoring, then you’d pretty much get an entire episode of black because of I Am a Hero.

It would still be fantastic though. The manga is about a zombie outbreak. Hideo isn’t someone that you’d think of as a hero. He’s older, chubby, his work isn’t going anywhere, he’s a bit socially awkward, and is a stickler for rules when it comes to guns. There’s a zombie running towards you, but he’s still needs to uphold the gun rules.

This might mean that he’s a weak MC, but he isn’t. He still maintains his humanity, even after witnessing a bunch of horrible things. He isn’t someone who would back down though or tremble with fear. We see this with the first zombie that he ends up killing. His girlfriend.

2. 7Seeds

This is actually my favourite mangas that are targeted towards females. The story is about a group of kids who wake up in a post apocalyptic earth. A meteor was coming down, so scientists frozen a bunch of teenagers so that they could survive. There are five teams in total with each one consisting of seven members, including one guide.

What I love about this story are the characters. Not all of them are likeable, but they’re all relatable in their own unique way. I also love that Team Summer B, which was a group of reject misfits that no one really saw surviving, ended up not only having all of their original members stay alive, but they also stayed as a group.

Don’t let the picture fool you into thinking that this is a superficial look into a post apocalyptic world. It’s simply fantastic.

3. Wagatsuma-san wa Ore no Yome

Wagatsuma-san wa Ore no Yome

This is a series that ended way too early. It wasn’t cancelled and it was doing great in the ratings, but the mangaka couldn’t keep doing this and keep their day job. At least their other manga is still ongoing, so I’m happy for that…..I’m going to go into a depressive rant soon, so I’m just going to mention why I picked this and then move on.

Wagatsuma-san wa Ore no Yome is something that I avoided for awhile. For some reason, I thought the idea of a guy going time slipping into the future and finding out that he married the most popular girl in school to be kind of…meh. Plus, this reminded me of Happy Project, so I was afraid that I’d end up being disappointed with the execution.

I finally did read it and it became one of my favourites. Aoshima finds himself in the future and he’s married to Wagatsuma. Once that happens, he does everything in his power to make sure that future is a reality. But the manga is about much more than that. We also get a look into his friends and see Aoshima help others. It’s a really charming story…I just wish it lasted longer……

4. Sakamoto Desu ga?

If you looked up Magnficent Beast in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Sakamoto-kun. If you found a book that is titled, “How to be the best you that you can be?” You’d find that all the steps would say, “Be like Sakamoto-kun.” If a President wanted to know how to win the people’s hearts and mind, they’d hire Sakamoto-kun to help them out. Only, they’d then lose their position as it would go to the rightful heir. Sakamoto-kun.

Sakamoto is a school boy that all the girls want and all the boys want to be like. He pretty much wins in life. Usually, this would mean he would be a huge Gary Stu, which would be annoying and definitely not someone you’d want to read about, but Sakomoto is anything but boring.

The confidence that he oozes out made me an instant fan. I can’t stop laughing when I read what he does. The chapter about him coming to school right on time always has be down for the count. I laugh, but I also admire him and want to be like him.

5. Trace

This is a bit of a cheat, because it’s not a manga, it’s a webtoon/manhwa from Korea. This was actually my first look into Korean comics and I’ve been reading them ever since. The first story has three main stories in it. I won’t spoil anything, but the characters do have supernatural abilities and are the only ones who can defeat a creature called Troubles.

In the sequels to come, the truth about Troubles and the organization that recruits these supernatural inclined people is revealed.

I just thought of a bunch of other ones that I want to name, but won’t. At least not for this post. There are so many amazing mangas out there, so it’s hard to choose just five. Even now I want to add another one and then another and then a baker’s dozen. Maybe I’ll do a theme next time. It might make it easier for me to choose then.

Is there a manga that you’d like to see an adaption of? If so, let me know! Even if it doesn’t get an anime, I’ll be able to get some great manga recommendations. 😀

Once again, congrats to Koe no Katachi for getting an anime! I’ll be on the look out to read the mangaka’s next work and I’m sure it will be just as amazing!

Koe no Katachi might be getting an Anime

koe no katachi

So I heard that there might be an anime adaptation for Koe no Katachi. This would be huge if it turns out to be true. Not only because the anime can cover the entire manga since it’s short and pretty much done, but because the manga is simply fantastic.

It’s about a girl named Nishimiya who is deaf. She transferred to a class where everyone teases and bullies her for this. The ringleader is a boy named Ishida. Day after day he torments her, but when her mother complains everyone turns their back on him and bullies him along with her. The end off in bad terms, but years later in high school Ishida finds Nishimiya and wants to make amends. He even learned sign language to speak to her properly.

Things happen, but the beginning, which is like the One Shot, is the best part of this story. The best and one of the hardest things to read as well. I also liked how when they’re older you notice that even though Nishimiya is deaf and can’t convey her words in a way for everyone to understand, everyone else is similar and can’t speak as well.

It’s good. I love it.

I really hope this is true, because I’d love to see an adaptation of this. I was even going to write an article about five mangas that need to be made into animes and this was on the list. This news is just a rumour at this time, but I think it will happen.

Ore Monogatari!! TV Anime is Official

I first learned about this manga after the crossover with Nisekoi. I’m glad I did though, because this is a really cute story that puts a lot of Shoujo’s to shame. Yeah, I said it.

Congratulations to the mangaka! Hopefully this show will be a success and more people go out and buy the manga!

Back in October, there was an announcement that Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine was going to announce something big for Kawahara Kazune and Aruko’s Ore Monogatari!! manga.  In the December 2014 issue, it has been revealed that the manga will be getting a TV anime adaptation.

Naruto (manga) is now over

A huge congrats to Kishi! Even though there has been some ups and downs and everything in between, I still enjoyed Naruto and I think I’ll miss it.

There will be a spin off mini series that follows the kids of the main characters. Yes, they do have kids. And it looks like Sasuke/Sakura’s daughter (who looks like Karin for some strange reason) has the hots for Hinata/Naruto’s son.

Speaking of the final chapter, it was nice seeing everyone as grownups. I love that Shino is a teacher. I never pictured him as one, but it really does fit his character. Hopefully the kids treat him well and he’s actually remembered. I don’t know how I feel about him having Godot’s eye wear, but whatever. Maybe they’ll explain the new glasses in the movie.

My only complaint is that the ending didn’t feel like an actual ending. It moved a bit too fast and then chapter 700 was mostly showing us the characters as grown ups, which was nice, but it made me want to see more of their lives instead of just being happy that it’s over. In that sense, I’m glad we’re going to hear about the kids so we can see how everyone grew up.

Till then, at least we have The Last – Naruto the Movie to keep us occupied. The movie, which hits theaters in Japan in December, takes place between chapters 699 and 700, so even though some feel like it’s filler to explain the pairings, it is canon. That means I need to watch it.

In any case, the manga is officially over and 15 years I think Kishi did a great job and character some really compelling characters. Congrats to Kishi and his team! I’ll be looking forward to what you come up with next!

ps. The title page for One Piece was incredibly classy and I loved the pirate skull on the statue in Naruto. Little Bolt clearly has great taste!

Day 20 – Anime Character that Gets on Your Nerves

While  thinking about this, my answer completely changed. Originally, I was going to use Makoto from School Days. If you haven’t watched School Days, then the only non spoiler thing I can tell you is that it’s about a harem gone wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong. Makoto starts off well enough, but then he starts thinking with his lower region and has sex with anything that moves. Normally, I’d stay away from animes like this because they never interest me. But one of my siblings heard about the controversy surrounding the final episode of the series. He watched it, then told me it was crazy!

I decided to watch it for that. I didn’t like the anime very much and had to fast forward a few scenes because I don’t like watching cartoon characters having sex, but the ending was somewhat satisfying. When I talked to him later on about it, he told me he only watched the final episode and had no idea what it was about.

And that was the last time I ever listened to my brother’s recommendations. However, it is due to the final episode that I can’t pick Makoto for the anime character that gets on my nerves. While it is true he got on my nerves, like everyone else in the manga, he went out in a way that I was happy with so it kind of cancels each other out.

Then I remembered someone I dislike more than Makoto.

Sasuke Uchiha

Uchiha Sasuke from Naruto

I never really liked him to begin with. He acted like he was the only victim of circumstance, when there are others who suffered as well. I know it’s horrible to have your entire family killed by your brother. I know that it would make you hate your brother and want to kill him. That’s fine. But once Itachi dies, Sasuke doesn’t use this death to reevaluate his life or maybe have a moment of self reflection where he realizes that revenge doesn’t heal past wounds, it just makes you feel even more hollow. No, instead Sasuke transfers all of his hatred to Konoha. He then continues to transfer his hatred into other things instead of working out his problems.

Hate doesn’t solve anything, but yet he continues to hate because he knows nothing else. Those that wish to help him, he tries to kill. I know this is about the anime character, but just thinking about how he is in the manga right now is getting me even more annoyed.

From a psychological standpoint, Sasuke’s mindset makes perfect sense. But that doesn’t mean that he’s not stupid. He is. He’s a huge idiot. And that too is fine, because I can like stupid characters. It’s just that he’s the only one to remain stuck in the past and he hasn’t grown at all. He’s still the same little kid dealing with his issues in a completely unhealthy and stupid way.

The only time I like him is in Naruto SD.

Naruto and Hinata to be the leads in The Last – Naruto the Movie

The Last: Naruto the Movie - Hinata & Naruto

As we all know, Naruto is finally coming to an end after 15 years. While the manga is ending, the anime still has a lot to cover, but we also get a final movie where the crew is all grown up. According to KitaKubo and SaiyanisLand the movie will have Naruto and Hinata as the main leads as they go on a mission together. I think some fans might be squealing in joy over this.

In my case, I was kind of hoping Kishi would troll everyone and not show who Naruto ends up with. It would provide me with a lot of entertainment as I watch fans from all sides get annoyed with this outcome. Just picturing the final scene with Naruto and his kid, but no sign of the mother. The backlash would be even greater than the ending of Allegiant. But now, I don’t know. It seems like Naruto and Hinata will end up together, which probably would make Neji quite happy and proud. As someone who isn’t a shipper, it doesn’t really affect me in anyway, but I’m excited for the movie and seeing everyone grown up.

The Last – Naruto the Movie will be out in Japanese theaters on December 6, 2014.

Crunchyroll to Stream Uncensored Terraformars Anime

Media service Crunchyroll announced at its uncensoredTerraformars anime screening at New York Comic Con on Saturday that it will stream this uncensored version “at a later date TBA.” The service has been streaming the same censored version that broadcast stations in Japan have been airing (with obscured scenes of violence) since September 26.

The story of Yū Sasuga and Kenichi Tachibana‘s original, graphically violent manga begins in the year 2577, hundreds of years after scientists sent cockroaches and mold to terraform Mars. However, when the first manned ships land on Mars, they encounter large humanoid cockroaches with great strength, and are wiped out. Humanity then sends elite warriors to Mars to eliminate the cockroaches.

A lot of people have been complaining about the censorship in Terra Formars. Even though it’s ridiculous and really knowing to have the action removed from you, I still don’t get the backlash considering that this is Japan. They’re very strict when it comes to airing violent things like this on TV.

That being said, it is incredibly annoying because you’re missing all of the major scenes. Once the uncensored version goes up, I think people will start liking this again. The only problem is that the story has been watered down and that’s my biggest problem with the anime. All of the character building has gone out the window in favour of the violence, but the violence is censored so viewers get shafted on both fronts.

There is a plus side to the censorship though. I think more people are checking out the manga because of it, which is a great thing because the manga is absolutely fantastic! And it’s because of this that I’m incredibly disappointed by the anime so far. Hopefully it gets better. I think the streaming the uncensored version is a good move on Crunchyroll’s part though, because once that’s gone more people will check it out and enjoy it.

censor terra formars

On a completely unrelated note. There’s a fruit fly that keeps bugging me. It’s only one, but it’s really getting to me. I normally don’t mind them, but it’s October in Canada and cold out and I’ve left the window open. How is it still flying around? Maybe it’s sad that all of its friends are gone and they’re all alone now. Maybe, by bugging me, it is remembering the better times when everyone was together and bugging me. 😦

I wasn’t planning on killing it, but now I feel sad about its life.

On another unrelated note, this is my 100th post! Woo!
