Super Mario Maker unboxing with Miles “Tails” Prower

Even though the tagline for this blog mentions gaming, I don’t really talk about it much. Weird.

Anyways, Super Mario Maker came out today and I decided that the best course of action was to buy it. Considering how badly the Canadian dollar is doing it might be better for me to buy it now instead of waiting for a cheaper price….Games that are popular like this tend to remain expensive and will only go up the more our dollar goes down….*sigh*

So for economic reasons I decided to buy it now. And since Tails lives in my room, which is where I took these pictures, he decided to show up and give Mario his support. It’s been 30 years for Mario and Tails has lived in my room for 3ish years now…so it makes sense for him to be here. 🙂

Hatoful Boyfriend: Alone and Dead

After speaking with mahouidol I wanted to see if it was possible to get a bad ending in Hatoful Boyfriend. I tried hard, but in the end I was able to get it. Unfortunately, it’s kind of shocking and depressing. Not being with someone…I never knew how sad that could be.

If you don’t score with anyone, then you’re no longer needed and get killed. I’m not even kidding. Here’s the card you get when it happens.

bad ending in Hatoful Boyfriend

At least I helped two birdies get married before I got killed by ninja birds.

With this out of the way, it’s now time to conquer Okosan! I’m going to try extra hard so I don’t get shanked like this again. Even though I was trying to get this ending, it still kind of hurts.

First Semester with Hatoful Boyfriend: Day 1, Meeting the Birdies

During Valentines, the good people of Humble Bundle decided to give some of us single folk a helping hand by providing the Humble Weekly Bundle For Lovers (of Games). It was there that I saw Hatoful Boyfriend.

If you’re not familiar with this game, it’s the pigeon dating sim. And while I may not have someone in my life I couldn’t deny myself from getting a pigeon that I could call my own.

Funny enough, I did actually take care of a pigeon during my younger days, so this kind of reminds me of that….that sounded wrong. I don’t mean it like that. I never had feelings for the little guy. Plus, I was a kid and the bird was already fully grown so….

Let’s change the subject.

I pretty much bought the bundle because of this game and thought it would be fun to chronicle my journey from a normal girl to a bird loving one here.

So far, I’ve played about 45 minutes of it. Mind you, there are a lot of minutes where I’m laughing, because…pigeon boyfriends. The heroine of this game is Hiyoko Tosaka, you can put your own name if you’d like. She’s the only human in a school filled with pigeons.

Yep. 100% human.

Now, if you’re weirded out by a dating sim where you’re human and your love interests are all pigeons, then that is perfectly normal. I know my mom would probably think that anyone playing this game has a few screws loose, which is why she’ll never know about me playing this.

If you’re curious about the game, then does Hiyoko being human really matter? In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t. This game is for the lawls and it definitely provides it so that’s all that matters.

My Top 3 World Premieres from the Video Game Awards

The Video Game Awards is now over and it wasn’t bad. I kind of wish we got to see more awards handed out and more newish trailers, but overall I think it was fine. This was the first time I watched the game awards from beginning to end, so for that reason I think it did a good job. Three World Premieres made my night. The first is No Man’s Sky.

At this point in time, I don’t think No Man’s Sky can do anything to make me not want to buy it. Every trailer I watch, every gameplay I see, I’m constantly blown away by how much detail and life is captured here. The game is simply stunning and this new gameplay continues this trend. I can’t want to get my hands on this.

The second is Metal Gear Online

It’s Metal Gear and online multiplayer, I don’t know about you but that sounds like a winning combination to me. I still don’t know if I like Kiefer Sutherland as Snake, but this does look good.

The third premiere is also my favourite one. It’s the gameplay footage for Zelda WiiU.

It came on right at the end of the show and around that time I started getting a bit loopy, since it came on close to 12am and I was already feeling exhausted. But then Miyamoto-san and Aonuma-san came on my screen and it’s like my sleepiness just went out the window. The game looks fantastic. Not only fantastic, but gorgeous and huge! When they said that they wanted to make this an open world they weren’t lying. At one point in the video you can see some wild horses galloping along side Epona. I want to do that. Like right now.

Zelda WiiU is coming out next year, I’m assuming around Christmas time, but what’s even crazier is that Star Fox will be coming out before that. We didn’t get to see a trailer for it, but we’ll probably get one soon. Maybe in a Nintendo Direct.

Honourable mention to Until Dawn, which looks like a terrifying good time. Not sure about Tacoma and Adrift. Both looked interesting, but not much was shown for me to form a proper opinion on it. The Order 1886 still looks fantastic, but no actual gameplay is shown.

Nintendo Direct – 11.5.2014

Here are some of the things that were touched on in no particular order.

– Iwata-san is back and he’s looking good!
– Majora’s Mask coming out for the 3DS/2DS
– Player introductions and gameplay from Codename: Steam. The game is from the makers of Fire Emblem.
– The Dog from Duck Hunt, along with one of the birds, is a fighter for Smash Bros.
– Amiibo stuff
– More Kirby and the Rainbow Curse gameplay
– Nindie Spotlight, featuring Shovel Knights and other awesome Nindie games. – More gameplay is shown in the Nintendo UK direct.
– New 3DS cover for PersonaQ – The Nintendo UK Direct had gameplay footage of it.
– NES Remix stuff too.
– Pikmin movies available for download on the 3DS and WiiU.
– New trailers for Captain Toad and Splatoon
– A sneak peek at the first DLC for Mario Kart 8. Seems like we’ll be getting an ExciteBike level, along with F-Zero and a Zelda one too.
– Mario and Luigi will visit the guys over at Monster Hunter
– Xenoblade Chronicles X gameplay – this game looks fantastic and huge!

In the Japanese one, we got to see more 3DS third party games like Attack on Titans, Final Fantasy Explorers Light, Devil Survivor and much more.

There’s a game shown in around 12:05 that looks amazing. I know it will never be released here, but I’m in love with the art style. The speech bubbles that pop up really make it feel like a manga. I wish I could play it.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Reveal Trailer

We’ve replaced dogs with mech suits.

The new trailer for the game looks sweet and it’s good to see the series changing things up a bit. Even though the series are incredibly popular, with each new game that appeared it seemed like players were getting the same thing each time. And when there’s a release every year, you tend to see these things more clearly.

So I’m glad that things are changing a bit. It does remind me of All You Need is Kill, which is great since I love the manga for that and can’t wait for The Edge of Tomorrow, but I think some people won’t be happy with the changes here.

I mean, when you look at this trailer does it scream COD to you? In some ways, yes, but in other ways no. So too much of a change may push fans away. Everyone like to complain about how games are the same and there’s no new innovation anymore, but the moment game companies start changing their franchises fans complain. They start saying that they’ve killed the series and how should stick to what is tried and true.

Fans want different experiences, but if you change it slightly they complain too.

You can’t win.

Since COD is a popular series, I think they can get away with trying new things though. Even if this game fails, they still have a large enough fan base to keep making games, so it’s not really an issue.

I don’t know if this will be a good game or not, but I’m excited to see the changes. I kind of wish they held off releasing a new game till next year, because it’s not so much the changes or the same gameplay that kills a franchise. It’s the yearly releases, because when you over saturate the market with your games it makes people not want to buy them right away. You want to give players some time to salivate about what’s coming, instead of saying, “Oh look, another COD game.”

In any case, I’m hoping they show more, especially gameplay, at E3 and that we see more from Kevin Spacey.  Perhaps the game will feel more political since he’s there. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll even make an appearance at one of the press conferences.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is dropping on November 4th.

I like the AC series, I really do and I’m especially excited to see what they do with the French Revolution in the new game, but at the same time…didn’t we just get a game not too long ago?

Looking sweet!

I feel like Ubisoft is kind of doing a slow kill to the series by releasing yet another AC game on the heels of another.

So French Revolution = YAY!

Another AC game so soon after the last one = Not really okay with this.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

A new Paper Mario game is coming out. Nintendo posted the trailer to this a couple of days ago, but every time I watch it I want it in my hands. I have enjoyed every Paper Mario game that I’ve played, which is all of them, so I know that this game will be awesome. Plus, the goat scene made me want this even more. Here’s the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet.

I still need a 3DS, but when I eventually get it I will be getting Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Goat!
