There a a lot of great villains in the drama world. Saki from Utsukushii Rinjin and Saki was positively diabolical! I loved watching her, but was terrified to ever meet someone like her. Yoshimoto from Kazoku Game is another good one. He’s not a true villain, but he is the main antagonist in this drama. Do Young, as long as you ignore everything that happened after the President’s Game, was a true troll and I loved watching him screw around with the contestants of the Liar Game just for his own amusement.
These are all great villains, but there was a recent one that caught my eye and laid their stake on my favourite villain.
Madame Hwang from Bad Guys
She only showed up for one episode, but that was enough for her to be my favourite drama villain. That’s how fan-freaking-tastic she was on this show. This was a woman who knew that she was the leader of a crime organization and did her job better than anyone I’ve seen. When she’s first introduced, she’s with the young crying boy in the picture and says this:
“Do you know money these eyes are worth? $230,000. Yes, $230,000. $230,000 is a lot of money. That’s also how much money your father owes this grandmother. He should pay grandmother back for that $230,000. But your father says he doesn’t have any money, so he won’t be able to pay grandmother. Do you think that’s a good thing or a bad one?”
What makes this scene better is the expression that she has on her face as she’s saying this. It’s not a “I’m evil” look, it’s a look of boredom, impatience, and annoyance that she has to babysit the kid whose father is currently being tortured. It was kind of amusing.
Later on in the episode, she’s being held captive and her men are hesitating to rescue her since there’s a gun to her head. Instead of pleading for her life, she tells the men that whoever kills Team Criminal can have her place and to hell with her life. I’m paraphrasing, but pretty much said this. Even if she dies, she doesn’t care as long as her enemies die as well.
I love it!
